Sugar Flower How-To Series: Why I LOVE Sugar Flowers

You have seen my posts, I am sure. You do you! Your only competition is yourself. As I continue to grow and learn as an artist and designer, I find myself returning to my passion of sugar flowers. It is why my clients hire me and why wedding planners choose me to be part of their creative team.

To be sure, there are fabulous buttercream, cake sculpture and watercolor artists. I am proficient and even excellent at some of those skills, but again, my heart skips a beat when a couple tells me they want sugar flowers on their cake. So when my skills or heart don’t mesh with a client wish, I am happy to refer them to one of my trusted colleagues. I am lucky to call some amazing cake designers good friends.

While I love the challenge of something new or different, sugar flowers make my heart sing..like this beauty I created a few years ago.

The opportunities to create are endless and I love nothing more than to get in the zone. I put on a podcast or music and get lost in the repetition, patterns and creation. I make dozens and dozens and then tuck them away for upcoming cakes.

I have always believed that cake is the signature detail in every celebrations.  I mean, for real, we wheel out cakes for special occasions, we gather around them and sing, we place them in the center of the table or room for weddings and celebrations.  Am I right, or what?
