Basic Powdered Sugar Glaze

Nothing beats the delicate sweetness of powdered sugar glass. In five minutes you can have a lovely finishing touch to any dessert. I just happen to love this glaze on pound cake but imagine the possibilities: scones, coffee cake, pound cake, donuts. You can even liven up the glaze with flavors like orange, lemon or lime juices, spices or extracts like cinnamon or almond or any liqueur.


Basic Powdered Sugar Glaze



  1. Place powdered sugar in a medium bowl.
  2. Add milk and vanilla extract to powdered sugar.  Stir to combine.
  3. Store in refrigerator for up to one week.


To make a lemon glaze, replace milk with lemon juice and replace vanilla extract with lemon extract.

Add more liquid if you want a thinner glaze.
