National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day + Recipe

Minette’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

I am not one for social media holidays. However, with hurricanes and a pandemic, I am all for a simple homemade treat and the sugary smells of cookies in the oven. While I make my living and have a passion for cake, cookies are my first love and preferred treat.

Like all good things, chocolate cookies styles are a personal preference: soft and chewy, crisp and thin, with nuts, without nuts. The list is endless and feel free to pay around with your recipe. This recipe is the result of years of tinkering. To me (and my kitchen manager, Nolan), this version is the perfect combination of crisp outside and gooey insides. Grab some milk or lemonade, ya’ll.

Notes

  • Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature.
  • I like to use mini chocolate chips, the semi-sweet chips are my favorite.
  • Walnuts or other nuts can be substituted for pecans.
  • Toasting the pecans really amps up the flavor.
  • This recipe can be doubled.
  • Bake ahead and freeze!  These cookies freeze beautifully.

Not a cookie person? Don’t fret, my friend Rose at Rosebakes offers up a variety of chocolate chip-based recipes that will do you right like cheesecake or cupcakes.

My gal, Chelsea at Chelsweets highlights those warm gooey treats from the Doubletree hotel.

Hey – Donna here…I can’t let Minette not mention the ultimate hotel chocolate chip, The Ritz Carlton Chocolate Chip Cookies. Just a hop, skip and a jump down the road at one of my favs, The Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. You can get the recipe here...but you can also just head to Amelia Island beaches and they actually give you the recipe with the cookie. Just saying:)
