Welcome to my new baking blog series that I’m calling, Minette Loves, where I curate my favorite baking items, gadgets and gear. I’ve spent over 20 years running a professional cake design business and baking is my love language. From my kitchen to yours, I love sharing the Southern classic dessert recipes that built my business and that have been in my family for years.

But, I always get the same questions from my clients and readers: What baking tools do you love? Where did you get that festive cookie tin for your cookie swap?

Well, now with this new blog series, Minette Loves, you can shop my favorite baking items too. I have so many fun ideas for this series and I can’t wait to share my love of baking and shopping with you.

I just wrapped up my holiday cookie swap where I shared some of my best Christmas cookies recipes, perfect to (socially distant!) exchange with your neighbors or add to Santa’s cookie plate the night before Christmas.

Of course, I had lots of questions on Facebook and on my Instagram about where I got my festive cookie tins and trays. So, first up in Minette Loves is holiday cookie tins, containers and trays.

This cookie shopping blog post is divided into 4 sections:

  1. Two Gifts In One
  2. Holiday Cookie Tins
  3. Trays & Plates For Santa’s Cookies
  4. Disposable Holiday Paper Plates
  5. Holiday Cookie Jars
  6. Disposable Holiday Paper Plates

Two Gifts In One

When I do a cookie exchange or I give cookies as a hostess gift, I always like to give the tin or the container as part of the gift as well. So, they get the cookies and the container they came in. No one needs to worry about washing and giving it back to me. (Giving someone dishes to do is never a great gift!) Plus, it makes a nicer, more thoughtful gift.

Sometimes (not all the time, but definitely sometimes!) I think more about the tray or the plate that I’m going to gift more so than the cookie recipe. I really love that giving freshly baked cookies in a tin or a tray for the person to keep is two gifts in one.

Pro tip for you: Also, you cannot, I repeat cannot, gift someone an empty cookie tin or tray. You have to fill your cookie tin, preferably with homemade cookies from your kitchen, baked with extra love, of course! It’s just good manners. In a pinch, I will allow store bought cookies or candy, in lieu of giving an empty container.

Some of the best gifts that I give are my homemade Southern cheese straws in a cookie tin.

Holiday Cookie Tins

I really love a cookie tin, because it is an air tight container. When you close it, the air stays out, which keeps the cookies fresher longer. Make sure you check out my other tips for how to properly store your homemade cookies. After all, if you’re baking lots of cookies during the holidays, you’re going to need a place to put all those cookies.

As I said, I love to buy lots of different cookie tins whenever I see them throughout the year, so I can stock up for the holiday season. I know it is tough to think about the holidays in June, but stocking up in the off-season really cuts down on the crazy in December.

I like to gift my cookies in the tin itself so the recipient gets the cookies and the container. Some of these tins that I found are personalized, so you could be really “extra” and personalize it to the person you are gifting the cookie. Or, you could get a few tins made with your name on it, so everyone knows whose kitchen the cookies were baked in.

Speaking of, I might need to order a few of these with “C’mon In Minette’s Kitchen!” What do you think?

Pro baking tip: Make sure to wash your tin out before using it the first time. Allow it to dry completely and then line it with wax paper before placing your cookies inside for gifting. Remember, your cookies must be completely cooled before you start stacking them inside a tin.

Here are some of my favorite holiday cookie tins for you to shop and stock up for your cookie exchanges…

Cookie Plates & Trays

You know I love a cookie tin because it’s air tight, but when the tray is super festive for the holidays, I can’t resist. I love a good cookie tray, especially around the holidays when you can find wonderful trays that are just as special as the homemade cookies on it.

And we can’t forget about those cookie plate for Santa and the hard working reindeer. What a better way to gift your cookies than on a festive plate or tray for Santa – fun and functional!

Pro baking tip for you: Don’t forget to wrap your cookie tray or plate in plastic when you’ve finished stacking your cookies. The plastic wrap will help to keep the air out, so the cookies stay fresher longer. And make sure that you allow the cookies to cool completely before you place them on the tray. If you don’t, they will stick together.

Shop Holiday Cookie Jars

Who doesn’t love a classic cookie jar, especially around the holidays? You’d be in the hit of the cookie exchange if you showed up with filled holiday cookie jars for everyone!

I love a cookie jar on the countertop all year long full of homemade cookies, but I really love changing it out for the holidays. I change out my cookie jar and the types of cookies that I put it in, so that it’s just a touch more special during the holidays.

Pro tips for you: Cookie jars are great because of the lid, which will keep your cookies fresher for longer. Remember to wash your jar out and let it completely dry before placing any cookies inside. And, don’t forget to completely cool your cookies before you place them inside the jar or else you’ll have a big lump of cookie ball inside.

Disposable Paper Holiday Plates

If you don’t have cookies tins or a jar, you can find lots of festive paper plates, which are great ways to make up your cookie swap plates. There are lots of really great disposable holiday themed plates that would be perfect for the cookies, just be sure to wrap them in plastic wrap before you deliver the cookies.

I love when you can find paper napkins and cups to make your paper plates, especially if you’re the one hosting the cookie swap party!

The disposable paper plates are great for the cookie swaps, because they are festive, but thy also tend to be a little more affordable than a cookie tin or jar for everyone. You can generally get a pack of holiday paper plates for less than $10 and when you have lots of other expenses during the holidays, this is a welcome cost savings.

There are so many festive paper plates and I love that they are in festive shapes too, like Santa’s face or a reindeer.
